FSC Publishers, Printers & Paper Network

Welcome to FSC Australia's Publishers, Printers and Paper network

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) launched the first of its sector specific initiatives in Melbourne on 5 July 2007. The Publishers, Printers and Paper network is a forum to bring together people interested in the FSC system.

The availability of FSC certified paper in Australia since the beginning of 2006 has seen significant growth in the number of businesses certified as well as interest in the system from printers, publishers and their customers.

This follows a trend established in Europe, North America and Japan over recent years where paper, printing and publishing has been the fastest growing sector in the FSC system. The trend is still accelerating.

FSC is demand driven – it responds to concerns in the community about deforestation and loss of bio-diversity as well as the implications these have for climate change and water management.

Many leading authors such as JK Rowling now insist that their books are published on stock that does not contribute to deforestation. Major publishers such as BBC magazines are moving their mastheads to FSC certified stock. Responsible corporations insist on managing the type of paper used for publications.

Through the PPP Network we will organise information sessions and training for companies interested in FSC certification. This network is also an forum to keep participants updated on FSC policy developments specific to the industry.
