30/09/2009 - Third ISEAL Roundtable:

//The International Social & Environmental Accreditation & Labelling Alliance>

 Are there too many social and environmental labels?

 Should they be working together more closely?

 How many more are about to emerge?

 These questions will be explored with an international panel of experts at the Third ISEAL Round Table, sponsored by Sustainability Victoria.

 Speakers include:

  • Dr Sasha Corville - Executive Director of the ISEAL Alliance. Dr Corville has worked on a number of projects in the development of harmonised voluntary certification and labelling systems.
  • Gemma Boetekees - Coordinator, International Market Team, ICCO, a Dutch inter-church organisation for development cooperation and sponsor of a joint project between Fair Trade and FSC.
  • Guido Fuchs - discussing the experience of Switzerland's largest retailers in developing umbrella labels to provide a simpler system for customers.
  • Hugh Wareham - CEO of Eco-Buy, will explain how his organisation deals with multiple labels in servicing the multiple needs of governmental, municipal, and corporate customers.
  • Representatives of member organisations (FSC, Fairtrade, Marine Stewardship Council and Rainforest Alliance).

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has reached an important milestone in Australia with 100 active certificates making it clearly the most widely used system for verifying wood, paper and wood products from responsibly managed forests and tree plantations.
