Forest Management

The FSC Principles and Criteria for responsible forest management is the international standard for FSC certification. The FSC National Offices can then develop national indicators to demonstrate compliance against the Principles and Criteria.

The set of Principles, Criteria and national indicators when endorsed by FSC is called an ‘FSC accredited national standard’. This standard is used for all certification processes in the country.

FSC Australia will be undertaking a process to prepare a multi?stakeholder endorsed and FSC accredited national forest management standard. To undertake this work it is seeking financial support from philanthropists, industry and government. A document prepared in December 2010 covering the relevant issues is available here.

A basic draft forest management standard for Australia is available for public interest and information. Note that it is a draft only and not intended as a document for consultation.

In countries where an FSC accredited forest management standard has not yet been fully developed, certification bodies create interim standards for use in evaluating forest management operations.
